The Neuroplasticity Of It All

Neuroplasticity is “the ability of the brain to form and recognize synaptic connections…”. In other words, to learn. By taking in new information and linking it to previously known knowledge the brain can rewire and change, adapting to different experiences. It was previously thought that the brain stopped growing and learning during late teens. That was extended to early twenties. Which was then expanded to mid-twenties. Now it has been proven through different brain scans and imagery that the brain grows and learns and reorganizes all throughout life.

Traveling, listening to music, learning new languages and exercising each can help to enhance brain health, create new brain cells, form new connections and halt or slow decline. It is simply groundbreaking to understand that learning occurs throughout a lifetime. But many philosophers and educators and hard working people for centuries have already instinctively known this. The willingness to know thy self and chart a life full of meaning is not new. However actually being able to see it, is. If you too would like to see it then check out this video by the BBC on Neuroplasticity: How to Rewire Your Brain .

The newness of neuroplasticity is groundbreaking and is happening in real time right now. It is a great time to be alive. It is a great time to learn new things. It is a great time to write your own story.
