Preparing To Bloom

A seed needs the right conditions to swell and begin forming the roots and stem that will sustain its growth. This is called germination. Defined as, “the process of something coming into existence and developing”. I love the word “process” here. And the word “developing”. Because anything that grows is by definition in a process of developing. Also, the fact that a seed needs darkness and moisture, then sunlight and warmth. A hibernation followed by an arousal. A time of rest and a time of activity.

Seeds are like ideas. Germination is life itself. As humans, I think we forget that we need the darkness to appreciate the light. We need rest in order to do the work of our lives. It takes a lot of energy to grow in two directions. Both laying down roots and having a strong enough core to produce the loveliness of leaves and flowers. The preparation for a life well lived is underrated.

As I enter into this mindfulness, I wonder if I am alone in this growing. Then I see all the miracles around me. The divine timing of the Winter rains that predict and promise the Spring flowers. The perfect ratio of birds to insects. The cycle of the moon. And I am curious where I fit in. Where is my place? What am I to do? Who shall I be? I remember…a bean seed never wants to be a carrot and a carrot never thinks it is a tomato. Each life in the garden is valuable and knows their place. Knows what to do and who they are to be. It is innate. Natural. Life’s perfect plan.

As I let go of my expectations and embrace my true self I am both nervous and excited. All I can do is keep reaching for the light and preparing to bloom in the most natural ways possible for me, as I write my own story. Wishing the same for you…
